This is HM Borges “jewel in the crown”, a 1977 vintage 100% from Boal grapes grown on the north coast of the island bottled after 20 years ageing in 650 litres American oak casks. The wine shows an intense aroma reminiscent of chocolate, toasted almonds and caramel. Medium sweet and very complex on the palate with firm tannins. A grand Madeira.
