Cartuxa Scala Coeli Red

Scala Coeli owes its name to the Monastery of Santa Maria Scala Coeli, commonly known as the Cartuxa Monastery, where Carthusian monks lived in silence and prayer. It results from the best vinifications of each year, using grape varieties less traditional to the Alentejo. It was first produced in 2005.

Winemaking: Obtained from the best vinifications of the harvest, using grape varieties less common in the region. In 2020, it was produced from the Touriga Nacional grape, harvested on September 14th. On this day, the grapes were carefully picked and taken to the winery, where a cold pre-fermentation maceration was carried out, followed by alcoholic fermentation at 28ºC and prolonged maceration. Total vatting lasted 30 days. The wine was then aged for 15 months in new French oak barrels.
