The Setúbal Peninsula is one of Portugal’s most charismatic wine regions, located just south of Lisbon, between the Tagus estuary, the Arrábida mountains, and the Atlantic Ocean. Its Mediterranean climate, tempered by maritime breezes, along with sandy and limestone soils, creates exceptional conditions for producing expressive wines with a true sense of place.

The region is world-renowned for its Moscatel de Setúbal, one of Portugal’s most iconic fortified wines, celebrated for its aromatic intensity and unmistakable character. But Setúbal also shines through its robust and aromatic reds, often crafted from the region’s signature grape Castelão. Alongside it, varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, Syrah, and Aragonez yield complex, full-bodied wines with excellent ageing potential.

On the white side, fresh and fruity wines made from Fernão Pires, Arinto, and Verdelho reflect the Atlantic influence and the diversity of the terroir, while the rosés stand out for their lightness, freshness, and modern appeal.

TERRAS DO PÓ RED WINE

A ruby-coloured wine that is concentrated, rich in good-quality tannins and very complex. With aromas reminiscent of mature red fruit, it is well matched by the wood which endows it with a touch of vanilla. A persistent, long-lasting finish.

Grapes: Castelão, Syrah, Touriga Nacional

Alcoholic Content: 13.5% vol.

Drinking Temperature: 16 – 18 ºC

TERRAS DO PÓ ROSE WINE

A bright pink wine with an intense fruity aroma. Refreshing on the palate, with an excellent balance between acidity and sugars.

Grapes: Castelão, Syrah

Alcoholic Content: 12.5% vol.

Drinking Temperature: 12º – 14º C

TERRAS DO PÓ WHITE WINE

A fruity white wine with light-green tints, reminiscent of citrus and tropical fruit. Its excellent level of acidity makes this a fresh wine. Fresh, very pleasant, with a fruity end note.

Vineyards in Fernando Pó, Palmela, on sandy soil in a Mediterranean climate. Lightly fermented in stainless steel vats, with temperature controlled between 16 and 18 ºC

Casa Ermelinda Freitas has been producing wine since 1920.
The 550 hectares of vineyards are located in Fernando Pó, a prime area in the region of Palmela, 60% of which is dedicated to the Castelão variety, 20% to red varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Syrah, Aragonês, Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Franca, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Pinot Noir, Trincadeira, Petite Sirah, Carmenére, Moscatel Roxo, and 20% to white grapes, such as Fernão Pires, Chardonnay, Arinto, Verdelho, Sauvignon Blanc, Moscatel de Setúbal, Viosinho, Encruzado, Alvarinho, Pinot Grigio, Viognier, Vermentino and Gewürztraminer, making a total of 29 different varieties currently being cultivated at Casa Ermelinda Freitas.
