Its history dates back to the 16th century, when the Carmelite nuns of the Convent of Our Lady of Mount Carmel created this refined delicacy. In 2013, the product was awarded PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) status, ensuring that only pastries made in Tentúgal can carry the name.
